On June 3rd and 4th, 2005, the Centre for Research on Language, Mind and Brain (CRLMB) at McGill University in Montreal is inaugurating a symposium series on Neuroscience and Language. The first symposium, entitled ÒThe Neural Bases of Language: From Evolution to TreatmentÓ, focuses on a range of topics from the neural and molecular biology of vocal learning to the use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to treat aphasia. The speakers are internationally recognized in their respective areas and have been instrumental in bringing new and innovative techniques, ideas and approaches to the neurobiology of language and human communication.

In addition to the invited speakers, there will be several oral presentations by members of the CRLMB highlighting the research ongoing within the centre and a special keynote address by Dr. Brenda Milner. Dr. Milner is the Dorothy J. Killam Professor, Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), and a professor in the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1984 and in 2004 was promoted to a Companion, the highest honour within the Order. She is known around the world for revolutionizing the study of memory.
